Come to the K6MEP Field Day(s)!

Where: Oxnard College grass area west of parking lot A, (Google Maps shows it as B)

When: Set-up Noon Friday June 27

Start QSOs 11 AM Saturday June 28

End QSOs 11 AM Sunday June 29

AGENDA:

Friday June 27th at 12:00pm – setup at Oxnard College.  Folks are encouraged to come out and set up your antennas and mark your planned operation spot.  For those that do come up and set up, or help others set up, we’ll have ‘build your own sandwiches’.

Saturday June 28th – Come out early and continue or start your set up.  Fire up your laptop and get connected to our N3FJP server for automatic uploading of your logs.  Don’t wait until the contest starts before asking for help!.  For those that plan on logging to paper, I will bring out forms you can fill out to help you remember what should be written down so that person tallying up the scores (me) has an easier job.

Just before the start of Field Day at 11am, we will tally up the number of stations, bands and modes that can be operated simultaneously to get our class number.  We’ll also have a sign up board for bands and modes, in 1 hour timeslots, for folks to put their names on so everyone has a chance to operate on the popular bands during this event.

The club will supply bottled water.

Saturday breakfast for FD participants will start at 9am.  Please bring something to share – muffins, pastries, doughnuts.  The club will supply the bulk of breakfast, but having an assortment of food items is welcome.

Saturday lunch is expected to start around 12:30pm, and we will start dinner prep at 5:30pm Saturday.  Same as above, please bring something to share.  You don’t need to feed 16 people!

Sunday June 29th – breakfast will be a little earlier at 8:30am and lunch will be pretty much at noon as we tear down and pack up.

We appreciate folks that can come and help us with the tear down.  A lot of folks will be tired, especially the cooking crew, and ‘many hands makes short work’.

What to bring to FD (adjust as necessary if you are not planning to bring a rig)

– Your club badge!  And your club shirt if you have one.

– Your rig, antenna, coax, power supply, ANTENNA EXPOSURE CALCULATION sheet (please)

– table, chair(s), canopy with stakes to keep it from blowing away.

– Extension cords.  The club will have a main ‘trunk’ of power, but you need to supply the branch to your rig.

– Laptop with power supply

– Hard hat if you have one.

– Sunscreen, layers of clothes, comfortable shoes.  The daytime should be nice, but the early morning and evenings will be chilly.

– Sunglasses and/or a hat with a large brim.  The sun can wear on your eyes.

– If you’re staying the night – tent, sleeping bag, pajamas, flashlight(s), bug spray (they come out at night), toothbrush.

Here are some other things to think about bringing if you will be setting up a station:

– Microphone. We’ve all almost forgotten to bring one 🙂

– Key/paddles if you are operating CW

– Antenna tuner if needed

– Headphones, so you can hear your radio better in an outdoor environment, and to keep radio noise down for everyone

– Headphone splitter, so other people can sit with you and listen to / help you operate

– Antenna analyzer

– Coax jumpers, for connecting to the club-supplied bandpass filters

– Coax fittings / adapters as needed (don’t forget barrel connectors if you are going to have a multi-length coax run to your antenna)
