The Ventura County Amateur Radio Club (VCARC), call sign K6MEP, is an ARRL-affiliated club organized in 1936. K6MEP is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law and our California State Charity Registration Number is 089051. With more than 80 members, VCARC has something for everyone. Whether you want to exchange ideas, learn from others, or share something new, you’ll find a welcoming community. From building and tuning antennas to learning CW (Morse code), activating summits or parks with SOTA and POTA, exploring digital modes, or contacting fellow operators around the world, the club offers a wide range of activities and interests.
The club meets on the second Friday of each month (except December, when we hold a club dinner at a local restaurant) at 7:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 6190 Telephone Road, Ventura. Each meeting includes a special-interest program after the business agenda. Join us for the educational side of amateur radio, the camaraderie of friends old and new, and usually some excellent snacks.
Guests are always welcome. If you’re interested in amateur radio or want to learn how to become an FCC-licensed HF, VHF, or UHF operator, we’d be glad to meet you. We can explain the licensing process, help you choose radios and antennas that match your interests, and answer most other questions you may have. Come to our next meeting and say hello.
License testing is offered every other month for all license levels. Please see our schedule for details. After most exam sessions we hold a portable operations event on site, often with a BBQ—because it’s not just about the radio; it’s about the people, too.
Tune your 2-meter radio to the Sulphur Mountain repeater (145.200 MHz, minus offset, 127.3 Hz tone) every Monday at 8:00 p.m. and join us for the weekly net.
